State 4H Horse Classic Educational Contest

On Saturday, April 24, we took 5 girls from Madera County 4H Clubs to the State 4H Horse Classic Educational Contests. They have been studying and practicing hard since the end of January in preparation for this contest. We left Coarsegold at 6:50 am and arrived at Reedley College just after 8:00 am. (after a small detour throught the Golden Arches DT) The girls got checked in and awaited the start of the hippology contestants meeting. They then proceeded on with the written test, stations, slides and team problem.
At 12:30 we made our way to the horse arena/ag pavilion area where the RC Ag dept BBQ'd hamburgers for lunch. At 1:30 they started with the judging contestants meeting, and moved right into the horse judging portion of the contest. The girls judged 7, yes, 7 classes - ranging from halter, to hunt seat equitation, to riening. That concluded at shortly after 6:00 pm., then we got about a 30 minute break, before the start of the demonstrations. We did not enter this portion of the contest, but had some friends who we wanted to watch. WOW, did we see some Awesome demonstrations!

During the evening break
Around 8:00 pm we began making our way back across campus to one of the classrooms, where the awards presentation was to take place. The girls (all of us, in fact) were quite tired. We were treated to a short slide presentation from the California Horse Classic team, about their trip to Denver, CO - where they took the National Championship!
Then the presentation of the awards for the day....

When all was said and done, the girls had collected 30 TOP TEN placings!
and OUR JUNIORS had WON HI-POINT JUNIOR TEAM
in both HIPPOLOGY AND HORSE JUDGING!!
Hippology team was: Savannah, Jordan and Christine
Horse Judging team was: Jessie, Jordan and Christine
( they take the 3 top individual scores, to make the team points)
And Karah learned that her tenth and eighth place finishes were just behind several of the team members who had just won the National Championship!
IS MADERA COUNTY AWESOME? OR WHAT?
Of Course, we already know Raymond 4H is Awesome!

We had a great time.

Ryan even came along to help the girls sing. Then we went in and had some hot chocolate, cookies and visiting. A fun time was had by all.
There are no other events planned for the rest of the year....
Our next meeting is January 18, 2010.
Wishing you all
